Have you guys tried Strike Fighters 2?

I got the download version of "SF2 Israel" a few weeks ago to play at lunchtimes on rainy days, and I'm having a really good time. Loving the Mirage III and the Kfir!

Surprised by the low-tech of those 1960's planes... Big jet pipe at the back but useless missiles, most combats fought with guns, and bombing done by eye! You would think things would have been very different from WWII

I bought it about 8 months ago and didn´t fall in love with it. I maybe spent ~3h with it but no, the graphic is too plain ugly for my liking.

This simulator has been annoying me from day 1.
Its.. got some really cool features that surpass even IL2, but there are a LOT of things missing and buggy making it.. really a sad story at least for me. I have not picked up this simulator, but "a lot of water has flowed under the bridge" since then so.. one day I might take the J35-Draken up for a spin...
Hopefully in a nice formation with some of you guys.

Pros:
Beautiful 3D models and animations of stock planes and skins.
Cool 3D cockpits in same quality and in some cases better than IL2.
Cool mod possibilities and widespread mod community

Cons:
Multiplayer unavailable in some versions.
Multiplayer buggy as hell when available(when I tried 2007).
Lack of "immersion" or "feeling" in menus, briefing etc.
Some questionable flight model issues (2007)..

If the multiplayer was fixed or improved it would be a fun simulator to do some cooperative flying/training.

Im sure the graphics of terrain and clouds have been improved a lot since 2007.

Yes, I know what you mean. It's hardly the best sim ever (the menu system is awful) but it has some really nice things.

Best for me is that it reminds me of the flight sims from the late 90's. It's easy to get into and the balance between realism and gameplay is spot on IMHO.

For example, to use something like the radar in those 1960-1970 planes with realistic controls would have been a nightmare. I remember reading how on the actual planes the same button could do completely different things depending on some other buttons being pressed before. In SF you you only need a handful of keys but you can still change radar modes, set the search distance, select targets manually and expect a realistic search angles and restrictions.

It means you can get straight into a campaign and shoot things down, but still feel like you are in control like a real pilot, unlike in Console sims like Ace Combat

If you want to fly jets for free. Try Free Falcon 5.5
Just to download and install.

http://www.freefalcon.com/

The looks of it has improved since I Flew Falcon 4.0 Allied Forces.

It's a good sim, with all systems working.
It has however a quite steep learning curve.

One nice feature is that you can fly both Viggen and Gripen,
along with aprox 20 other planes. Some newer like F15,F16 even F22
But also oldies like F4, A4, F104, Mig 21.
Even the BUFF.. B-52 is flyable

Looks good enough. I'll D/L for testing. I'll try to get in the air.
