How to fly her

A pilot in one of F8's (Wing in Barkaby outside of
Stockholm) Gladiators, getting ready for take off.

Here are some tip-offs how to be a successful J8A pilot in IL2:

Always keep altitude. In the J8A you need Altitude for E. Whenever you get the chance to climb, CLIMB! Don't waste time chasing a foe's 6 in levelflight. He is most often faster than you are. Instead CLIMB(!!), he will surely turn around and come back for you, and if you have gained altitude, you have gained E, thus maybe an advantage over him. BUT.... do NOT loose sight of him, there is a chance he climbs too!

Always try to locate your enemy. If you know where he is at all time you can plan your flying, and when he is coming for you ,you can quickly decide which way to turn so that he looses an opportunity. Plan how to meet him! Situational Awareness (SA) is ONE very important key for success. If you do not know where you opponent is or what he does, you will most likely be in a tough spot.

Try not to overflood your engine with fuel in negative G. No engine - big nono! You can restart after decrease mix and throttle, but you will loose important E.

Practice gunnery and don't shoot until you are sure to hit him, and then use all 4 guns. Aim for engine and cockpit!!!! Also, shoot in deflection ... shooting dead on on his six won't accomplish more than you getting hit by chips of his paint
Don't be too eager. Shoot when close -150
